These are some of the projects I have worked on by artists who had record deals.
Stevie Nicks
I worked on a couple of songs from The Other Side of the Mirror. On this project, I also got to work with Bruce Hornsby, who both played piano on a track, and sang a duet with Stevie. I also got to work wiht producer Rupert Hine. I would later work at his Farmyard studios with Paul Carrack.
Boris Grebenshikov
I got to work with this Russian artist before Glasnost. Dave Stewart from Eurythmics was producing. We had a great time. One of the most rewarding things about this project came many years later when working with my friend Roman, whose songs you can hear on my Unsigned view. Roman grew up in Moscow, and he and his brother listened to this record from one of their heroes that I recorded.
Carly Simon
This was for the movie Working Girl. I recorded everything on the popular song, "Let The River Run" even thought they brought in Frank Filipetti to mix the record. I got to mix the film version though. I also worked on a lot of cues for the film. Carly was awesome to work with, and I also got to work with director Mike Nichols. Amazing, inspiring people.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo
It was a thrill to work with these South African musicians. It started as a day of recording, and blossomed to recording most of the album, and mixing all of it. While recording, Paul Simon, who had introduced this group to the rest of the world on his Graceland record, was recording in the studio down the hall. He came in to say hello to the boys and ending up taking over production on a song. Cool. His longtime producer/engineer Roy Hallee came in and told me he admired my mic'ing techniques. !!!!!!
Paul Carrack
I had admired this singer since he sang "How Long" in the band Ace. We started this project in New York and worked for 6 weeks. The record label liked it so much he asked Paul if he could finish by the fall, so we had to go to England for a month to finish it. We worked at Rupert Hine's studio in the country called Farmyard. It was residential with 2 houses and a studio on the grounds. A true dream project.
