METS of MOLI

Year Established:
1959, by prominent New York attorney William Shea in the Continental League. The Mets join the MLB in 1961.
First MLB Game:
April 11, 1962. At St. Louis, the Mets lose to the Cardinals 11-4.
First World Series:
In 1969, the "Amazin' Mets" win their first World Championship against the Orioles after winning a first place pennant. Over 58,000 attend the fifth and deciding game in the series, where Jerry Koosman pitches a 5-hitter to help propel the Mets to victory.
