Broncos Conclude Day One at SMC Invitational
The Santa Clara women's tennis team concluded the first day of competition at the Saint Mary's College Invitational hosted in Moraga, Calif. at conference opponent - Saint Mary's College. The Broncos saw success in both singles and doubles, in the matches that were played today. Sophomore Carmen Pham was a last minute change in the Blue Doubles Bracket for SCU, as Kimi Cox's original partner Isabelle Hoy fell ill. The Pham-Cox duo will play in the finals tomorrow, as they defeated Pacific's Amber Abdallah and Clara Schuhmacher, 8-4, in the quarterfinals, and edged the Boise State - University of Nevada, Reno pairing of Laura Baum and Katarina Huba, respectively, 9-8(6).
SCU Men's Soccer Battles Saint Mary's On Sunday
The Santa Clara men's soccer team travels for a single game this weekend against West Coast Conference foe Saint Mary's on Sunday, Oct. 12. Kick off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Saint Mary's Stadium in Moraga.
Meet Cross Country Senior Chris Gumbs
The Santa Clara cross country teams are training this week for the Bronco Invitational on Sat., Oct. 18 at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale. Chris Gumbs was honored on the 2006 All-WCC first team and returns for his senior year. Gumbs, a Seattle native majoring in Combined Science, talked this week to santaclarabroncos.com about why he loves Santa Clara, what he wished he could change about himself and of course why he encourages fans to come out to the Bronco Invitational (hint: `they might just witness a new school record').
No. 20 Volleyball Sweeps Portland, 3-0
Redshirt senior Anna Cmaylo posted 11 kills and five total blocks to lead the No. 20 Santa Clara volleyball team to a three-set sweep of the Universiy of Portland Thursday night at the Chiles Center. The final set scores were 25-18, 25-20, 25-21.
Meet Senior Cross Country Runner Veronica Vazquez
The Santa Clara cross country team is training this week for the Bronco Invitational on Sat., Oct. 18 at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale. Last weekend Veronica Vazquez finished sixth at the Charles Bowles Invitational at Willamette University in Salem, Ore. and the women won the title. Vazquez, a senior from San Jose, is majoring in Accounting. After laughing at high school runners when she was in middle school - she thought they were insane to run that far - she is getting the last laugh.
