Hey, found something you may be interested in. That portrait photographer you asked about... he has an account on deviantART that basically gives you his .psd files showing you what post processing he did for some of his photos. Here's an example. http://nullerpsd.deviantart.com/art/American-Portraits-PSD-54951329

When you're there you'll have to click Download of the left and then open it up in photoshop, and then look at the layers panel there should be some tabs you open to see his different techniques used for his post processing. The curves are the major part of his post processing, really make a difference.

  • Sammy's Roumanian?
That said, these comparisons are starting to make less and less sense. Sammy's isn't a calculated theme restaurant emulating an experience, with costumes. It IS the experience. The menu, the style of cooking, the schmaltz, the salt, etc., may not resonate for you, but it's not fair to pretend their isn't culinary value in a cultural dining experience. Anthony Bourdain lives in his Sammy's tshirt.... here's video from his visit, with chopped liver featured: http://www.travelchannel.com/Places_Trips/Destinations/North_America/United_States/New_York/Tony_Eats_With_Food_Critic_Mimi_Sheridan

  • Le Bernardin & My NYC Restaurant choices. Help?
Blue Smoke is not worth your time (dated, average food)..Try DBGB in the Bowery for a much better and current experience. And for my money, the best new Italian spot in NYC is Marea (Maialino is trendy, but not terrific)....
  • Half bottles of wine
It's true that half bottles are difficult to come by. I, too, have been searching this out. It was brought to my attention that the difficulty of finding a sub $10 price for a good wine is because the materials costs - bottles, seals (corks or screwcaps) - and production costs - making the bottles and bottling - and shipping are at similar to producing full size 750mls... therefore many half bottles are not half of the original price, but more priced at 65%-70% of the full size price. (Not sure if this tangent is helpful in your search, but it seems slightly relevant to the cost element of your post.) Agreed that Sherry-Lehman and Astor Center has some good selections. Warehouse Wine (Greenwich Village) has a good selection - but as always with this store, goods are hit or miss. I did come across an interesting website for half bottles called www.halfwitwines.com. Haven't tried them yet, but seems like they have a good selection - especially if you hit they're sale selection at the right time. Also, there are more and more wine bars and restaurants offering half bottles. I'm kind of hoping this is a new trend. Park Blue, Bar Henry, Landmarc, 8th Street Wine Bar, The Modern @ the MoMA and Ditch Plains are some with full on half bottle lists to name a few.
  • Village Yokocho's ramen
Doubtful. Japanese don't really make beef-based soups and if they did, it wouldn't have ramen noodles and slices of pork.
