- About Me
I am referred to as DrTom, which is what my students used to call me. I am a conservation biologist and a professor at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. I teach courses on the ecology and conservation of plants and animals, and I conduct research on these topics. My work has taken me to Latin America, East Africa, Madagascar, Egypt, and Europe, and I have done research in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Oklahoma, and New York in the U.S.
I love single-malt scotch and a good cigar in the evening, while sitting near my house in the forest. I do some fly-fishing for trout, but not as much as I would like. Been married for 41 years, to six different women (just kidding), and we have three children and three grand-children.

Some think that once you retire, your productive life ends-you go fishing, play golf, take an African safari, visit Paris. But I tried all those things BEFORE I retired, and they are not enough. On the other hand, I'm just not sure how productive I want to be at this stage of life. All I know is that my time and energy are fully occupied with my gardens, forest, family, friends, scotch, cigars, and, oh yea, trading stocks.
