  • Inside Beauty

In her interview with our magazine, Keira Knightly spoke candidly about the pressures that the entertainment industry puts on the physical attributes of females. The naturally slender actress has faced accusations of anorexia (including the unfair blame placed on her for being a role model to those with the eating disorder) and had her bust enhanced on both the King Arthur posters and her recent Chanel ads. Because of this interview, our editors were contacted by Claire Mysko, co-founder of Inside Beauty. The goal of this outreach program is to educate young women about the unrealities presented in the media and the dangers of succumbing to these manipulations. The women behind this organization (Mysko and Magali Amadei) know of what they speak.

  • Carly Couture Interview by SHE Unlimited

I went to college, and decided that I wanted to be a 'Textiles and Apparel' major. The whole program was pretty easy for me because I had so much prior experience working with fabric, sewing, design, etc. but I still learned many things that I use to make my designs and garments better. I learned how to flat pattern and drape, but since I don't own dress forms I don't get many opportunities to drape my designs now. All of the designs on this page are flat patterned. I graduated from college this summer with a bachelors degree in Textiles and Apparel, and this web site is how I want to use my degree. Visit http://www.carlycouture.com

  • Baby Cappelli, The Hat Story Interview

    1. Tell us about you? Who is Jamie, and what is Baby Cappelli.com? I am a 30 year old wife and mother of two. I enjoy walking, swimming, scrap booking, good food and good company. I teach Aqua Aerobics one night a week at our local sports club. Babycappelli.com is a website that offers fabulously fun hats and headbands for babies and toddlers. It was made with a lot of love and many late nights. I always new I would be a stay-at-home mom...I did not know how challenging it would be. After five years of raising our children I began to feel the need to do more things for myself. I began crafting more after I put the kids to bed. I started out making small hair bows and flowers for my daughter. As the weather grew colder I tried a flower on a hat and LOVED it. I received so many compliments that I just had to make something of it. I took a few in to our local boutique and the went crazy for them. I was so excited that within weeks and many late nights I built my website and started marketing on line. My client list began to grow and is still growing. 2. How did you come up with such a unique name? For our readers and listeners, what does Cappelli mean? The name Baby Cappelli came from a long late night conversation with one of my best friends. She and I are both Italian so I asked her to get on the computer and go to a translation site and put in the word hats. We immediately LOVED Cappelli. Cappelli is Hats in Italian. 3. Take us from idea, to conception, then to a finished product? The idea was a simple one, but the hats have been a work in progress. I started out hand dying each hat and drying them in my dryer. I went from hand dying to a manufacture overnight. I look back at the first few hats and can tell how far I have come. Finding quality silk flowers at a decent price was an even bigger challenge. I tried many companies until I found the right fit. My website has been a work in progress since day one and I am forever updating and changing things around to keep it interesting. 4. Where do your ideas and inspirations come from? My ideas for new hats or products come from anything from a change in the season or a customer request. My inspiration comes from my family and most of all the wonderful women and moms who send pictures, compliments and feedback. I love to network with other women like myself. So many have written or called to chat about their ideas. I also network a lot with other women already in the business. Like Ashlee from Sidney's closet...she and I both recently introduced a Mommy Rep Program that allows moms to sell out merchandise. 5. These are the most beautiful, intricate hats and heads bands for tots, what type of material do you use to infuse the flowers? The hats are 100% rib knit cotton for a comfortable fit. I use a fabric tack and metal rhinestones to embellish the flowers. 6. Our editors here at She Unlimited would love to sport on on their heads, can a hat or headband fit an adult? I have had some requests for larger hats. I have made some special for children and women with cancer. I still have a few left in limited colors. I am not sure if I will add them as a regular product. 7. Any additions on future products? I think it's important to add new products once in awhile. I have thought about matching hat and onsie sets. 8. Tell us about media and the press you have received lately. Last week I received two exciting calls. One from an editor at Earnshaws Magazine ( a magazine for the trade) she is going to feature my new headbands. It is so cool to see my stuff in magazines! The other call was from a company based out of San Diego that supplies movie sets with wardrobe items. She was not sure what movie..but I can't wait to find out! 9. When starting a new company or business what advice would you give our She Unlimited Readers. My business evolved so quickly, that there were times I felt totally overwhelmed...to the point of selling the business. Write up a business plan. Pick up the phone and talk with people already in business. You may be surprised at how nice some people are in sharing information. Read: The Martha Rules: 10 Essentials for Achieving Success as You Start, Grow, or Manage a Business by Martha Stewart Most of all...I would recommend remembering why you started it all. For me it was to do something fun and earn a little extra money while staying at home with my kids. I have to remind myself weekly what my priorities are. Lastly, to have fun with it....life is too short to do something that you do not enjoy. 10. Do you have a celebrity following? One of my hats went to Ben Afleck and Jennifer Garner in a gift basket..i have not seen it in the news yet. Another went to Kevin James (from the King of Queens) and his wife. I met Angela Basset in Hollywood and she loved the hats for her twins. I keep waiting to see something pop up in the news!!!

  • Doryn`s Dish On Suncare

In my very short 28 years, there's not a lot I haven't done. I will be the first to admit I live a privileged lifestyle, but that doesn't come without appreciation and giving back to those in need. I am also a true believer that life is short and that you should try everything once (well, almost everything). I grew up in a suburb of Massachusetts and lived in New York City for 8 years. I have known my incredibly perfect husband (I really mean that, he really is) for 7 years and have been married for 2 1/2 years. As a child, I traveled around much of the US, as a college student I backpacked through Eastern and Western Europe and as an adult, I've been from Bora Bora to Anguilla to Italy. I have two college degrees and some graduate school experience. I have lived in 5 cities and have worked in high end residential interior design, interior design on television, commercial real estate, real estate staging, the hotel industry, fashion and social work. I have owned 2 bridal websites and a website for interior design advice. As of August 2005, I am an American expatriate living in London while my husband opens a London office for his company in New York City. Often people ask me what I'd really love to do? Some call me indecisive, I call it exactly what I always wanted. I never wanted to be defined by just one thing, and I always knew I wouldn't be. I feel that my experiences have shaped who I am today and what I can offer you! If I truly love something, I am the best sales person there is. I came up with the idea of Doryn's Dish for two reasons. One, I realized people were constantly asking me for advice on the the latest, ANYTHING and I knew I just needed to put it online so I could just tell them, "I don't know, look at my website" and two, when I left my job and business in New York to move to London for my husbands job, I knew I had to do something that would make me get out and explore London and hopefully some job or great opportunity would blossom from it. I will only let you know about things I truly think are great and hopefully you'll agree. I DON'T DO negative reviews because I would never want to hurt a companies reputation, but once in a while I am known to slip up in a very kind, nonchalant way if it is deserved. I DO NOT get paid by the companies I write about and I always make sure I try something first before writing about it. A great new addition I've made are all the fabulous weekly "dishers" I have on the site. They are all professionally trained in their field and I've only chose people who I feel are truly knowledgeable with years of experience and good at what they do: Michelle Spieler - Make-Up artist on the Emmy winning show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Matt Iseman - Comedian and Former Television host on E! Television, Caroline Cosgrove - Owner of Baby Concierge in London, Deanna Marano - New York City Party Planner, Amar Thepan - Fashion Publicist Guru of London, Arden Rosenfeld, Celebrity Personal Trainer & Soraiya Kara - Professional Organizer! All weekly "dishers" go under the same notion that I do and only give tips and speak about things that they love and believe in. The don't push product, but are allowed to promote their own businesses because, hey...they're doing it for free and I got to give them something! PS. I AM NOT A WRITER, DON'T CLAIM TO BE ONE AND AM NOT LOOKING FOR A BOOK DEAL OUT OF MY BLOG. I simply write the way I speak. So, if you catch the occasional grammatical error, ignore it...I'm human!

That shock sent her into an adolescent tailspin, until her kindly family physician, "Dr. Miracle," came to the rescue. Reintroducing her to classic principles of French gastronomy plus time-honored secrets of the local women, he helped her restore her shape and gave her a whole new understanding of food, drink, and life. The key? Not guilt or deprivation but learning to get the most from the things you most enjoy. Following her own version of this traditional wisdom, she has ever since relished a life of indulgence without bulge, satisfying yen without yo-yo on three meals a day. Now in simple but potent strategies and dozens of recipes you'd swear were fattening, Mireille reveals the ingredients for a lifetime of weight control–from the emergency weekend remedy of Magical Leek Soup to everyday tricks like fooling yourself into contentment and painless new physical exertions to save you from the StairMaster. Emphasizing the virtues of freshness, variety, balance, and always pleasure, Mireille shows how virtually anyone can learn to eat, drink, and move like a French woman.

  • patemm™ Pad Interview

When my first child Patrick was born, I found the small rectangular shape of diaper changing pads frustrating because aligning him in the right position was always a challenge — particularly since he was a rather wiggly baby. Even more annoying was the design of the folding/rolling pad that had ties, buttons, or even Velcro®. I needed something simple that could fold easily — especially with one hand. When my second child Emma was born, I, like most parents today, was always on the go and found my diaper bag overwhelming at times — especially for quick trips to the grocery store or a visit to the park. For these short jaunts, I only needed a few diapers, wipes, perhaps a change of clothes and a changing pad. Plus, I wanted something small and compact that I could throw in my car, handbag or even at the bottom of my stroller. Recognizing the need for something that worked better, I started to create a solution. Months later, I created the idea for a ROUND diaper changing pad resulting in the patented round and complete patemm™ pad. patemm & company was founded in San Francisco in 2004. The 2 passions in my life — my children, Patrick, Emma and Jack and my husband Marty — inspire the company. making changes easier... with patemm™ pads grace m. welch founder, president, mom inventor patemm & company

  • The Johnny Light Interview- Seat up?

The Johnny-Light™, dubbed a "DHC" or "domestic harmony commod-ity", is an easily installed (no tools), battery powered device that lights the toilet bowl at night and goes off when the toilet seat is down. The greenish glow in the toilet bowl reminds users to put the commode seat down and helps eliminate the "annoying fall-ins" and late night splashes that aggravate so many women. The "seat-up/seat-down" debate has raged in households almost as long as toilets have existed. Potty politics have been a subject for poets, fodder for such advice columns as Anne Landers, and even lyrics in songs.

  • The Spoon Sisters

Who are The Spoon Sisters? Nicknamed “Big” and “Little” -- that’s based on age, not size – and we really are sisters! We grew up in an environment filled with gifts. Our mom had a gift closet and prided herself on always being able to give a gift in a moment’s notice, and of course, wrapped in unusual ways. We credit our sense of style, and that extra special “shopping” gene we inherited, to our mom, and our offbeat sense of humor to our dad, who was renowned as a lover of gadgets. Our official entry into the gift industry came in the ‘80’s when Little Spoon worked for the industry’s most cutting-edge rep firm.

She even made up a song about it, often singing "I'm a Little Lubbaloo". She was the original model for our clothing, and the inspiration for the line. Her unique spirit is amazing, magical and beautiful. And of course we wanted her clothing to match.

  • She Unlimited Interviews Anita Grant

AnitaGrant.com was created on the 5th of December 2005, by the all round self-proclaimed-cosmetic-label -reader-ingredient junkie-mixtress, Anita. It wasn't until she blistered her hands using a store bought bottle of so called "safe synthetics" that she decided never to purchase another off the shelf product again. Since 2003, Anita has been making her own brand of lotions & potions. "You shouldn't need a degree in chemistry to understand a product's ingredient label. It's so liberating to be able to read the label of a product, understand the ingredients contained within and say 'NATURALLY, I can do better.' ", says Anita as she mixes up her latest Creamy Café Latte hair butter. Somewhere, in between the sweet scent of organic Virgin Coconut Oil, the aroma of pure Coffee Oil & the yummy chocolateness of unrefined Cocoa Butter are Anita's products. All of Anita Grant's Goodies are made to order and individually packaged to ensure freshness - not pre-packed & left on the shelf waiting for condensation to set in. Each of her Goodies are hand crafted using recipes - not formulas. "The main reason why I make my goodies is that it's FUN!", she says. Anita's ingredients & Goodies are NEVER tested on animals. However, the few ingredients that our animal pals supply her with (like sweet honey & rich goat's milk) are sourced responsibly. Rather than fill her creations with chemical brews Anita works very closely with Mama Nature utilising only those quality ingredients that yield superior benefits for your RDA (recommended daily application). Being accountable to her customers is something that is always on her mind, in her hair & on her skin. Anita Grant is a family owned business providing deep condish treats, hair butters, skin smoothies & the power of moisture direct to your door! ps: Remember - all of Anita's packaging is 100% recyclable. Please make an effort to recycle your empties. Cheers!
