  • Meet the Client - Brown Paper Tickets

fremontbridge.jpgWho knew buying tickets to an event could be as much of an experience as the event itself.Brown Paper Tickets is a Not-Just-For-Profit business (www.notjustforprofit.org) which means they believe in more than just profit-making. While making a profit is essential to staying in business, it shouldn't be the sole focus; businesses need to operate sustainingly. But enough about their mission statement, let's meet sophomore exhibitors, Brown Paper Tickets:

Last year was your first year to attend SXSW; do you have a favorite SXSW moment?

William was blown away by the Addictive TV performance at the Film Closing/Music Opening party and enjoyed the comedy showcases during Music.

Can you tell us more about how your charity donations work?

Giving back to the community is an essential step in a sustainable operation, which is why we donate 5% of our profits to charity. We have four charity categories - Children, Animals, Human Rights, and the Environment. Every month, our Not-Just-For-Profit Representative, Emma, compiles a list of five charities that belong in each category, and our employees vote on which from each category they think should be the recipient for the following month's donations. Each time someone orders tickets on our website, they pick which of the four categories they would like their 5% to go to. We add it all up at the end of the month, and donate to the selected charities.

Brown Paper Tickets is based out of Seattle. What is something a person must do or see when visiting Seattle?

A lot of people would say, "Go to the top of the Space Needle!" Or, "Visit the EMP (Experience Music Project)!" I've lived here my whole life and haven't done either of those things. Whenever I have visitors from out of town, I prefer to show them the REAL Seattle. Here are several things someone should do to get the real Seattle experience. For maximum fun, pack them into a single day:

    • - Ride a ferry
    • - Visit the Pike Place Market when they're throwing the fish, and buy some locally-made cheese
    • - Take a tour of the Theo Chocolate factory in Fremont
    • - Have dinner at Ivar's on Lake Union
    • - Watch a bridge go up (this you can do while having dinner at Ivar's, as the University Bridge is very close)
    • - Go to the clubs on Capitol Hill

Seattle is home to four bascule bridges. One of them, the Fremont Bridge, is two blocks from our office. According to Wikipedia, it opens an average of 35 times a day, making it the most frequently opened drawbridge in the US, and one of the busiest bridges in the world(pictured above). And I can see it out my office window!

With views of bridges and an outstanding company policy it sounds like the folks at Brown Paper Tickets sleep pretty well at night. Talk to the Williams at the SXSW Trade Show to learn more about how this progressive ticketing company and you can work together on your next event.
