    Fifa president Sepp Blatter has called for stricter rules on foreign ownership of clubs in the UK and abroad. "Something has to be done about these billionaire owners," Blatter told reporters at the European Parliament.

    There were celebrations and commiserations for the British teams in the UEFA cup last night with Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspurs progressing to the next stage while Everton and Motherwell were dumped out of the competition.     Chelsea were held to a goalless draw away to Romanian champions CFR Cluj in last night's Champions League tie. Striker Didier Drogba had a frustrating game and was stretchered off with what appeared to be a serious injury in the second half.

    Robbie Keane scored his first Liverpool goal in last night's Champions League 3-1 win over PSV, a game which also saw captain Steven Gerrard net his 100th goal for the club.     Marcos Senna's free-kick was enough to give Celtic another Champions League defeat as the Scots lost 1-0 to Villarreal. Celtic needed to taka something from this game after a disappointing draw at home to Aalborg in their first match.

    Arsenal got their home campaign in the Champions League off to a fantastic start with a comfortable 4-0 win over Porto, with braces from Robin van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor. Van Persie slid in to convert Adebayor's cross and open the scoring. The Dutchman's corner was headed in by Adebayor making it 2-0.

  • AaB Aalborg 0-3 Man Utd

    Dimitar Berbatov opened his scoring tally for Manchester United with a brace in last night's Champions League win against AaB Aalborg. Wayne Rooney open the scoring on 22 minutes, sliding home a pass from Ryan Giggs.
