Idealware recommends software tools for event registration
The teachers at my son's high school were thrilled when I passed on the news that our local chapter of Generation Engage, a national "nonpartisan youth civic engagement initiative," had scheduled an advance screening of the new movie The Kite Runner, based on the popular novel by Khaled Hosseini. The screening was part of GenEngage's Engagement Screening Initiative (they've sure got a lot of initiative over there), and a boost to the UN Development Programme.
This was a perfect fit for the kids at North Miami Senior High: Not only is The Kite Runner on the 10th grade summer reading list, but the kids had raised money at their annual charity bowling event for Help the Afghan Children (not to be confused with Save the Children Afghanistan). How many kids signed up to see the movie: 105! No wait, can we add three more? Here's the final count, 110.
The local Generation Engage outreach coordinator was thrilled, too. She only asked one thing: Could we gather all the teens' names and e-mail addresses so they wouldn't have to write it all out at the event? That would save time at the registration table, and it would mean that no one would have to type the whole list into the database.
Sounds efficient. But according to Idealware, a Consumer Reports-style review of nonprofit tech, there's an even better way. Why not have your guests register online, before the event, entering their own info directly into your database? Turns out there are at least a dozen different software programs for event registration. To evaluate them, Idealware consulted a panel of 11 nonprofit tech experts. You can find out there what event registration program is best for your organization, whether you're planning the occasional small event for your core membership or a big blow-out annual conference. There are options for free events, ticketed events, and even tiered ticket prices.
Your members are enthusiastic — you might even say engaged — so why not let them do the registering for you?
