No More Missed Connections
The Idealist connects do-gooders
This disconnect is what motivated the folks at Action Without Borders to form the brick-and-mortar precursor to Idealist, the Contact Center Network, in 1995. Back then the idea was to set up physical contact points, kind of like libraries or stores, where like-minded do-gooders could meet and share new ideas for social change.
It didn't take long for the group to figure out that this new thing called the World Wide Web was a powerful resource for forging connections. As the network grew more extensive and the resources more sophisticated, the site evolved into an Idea List for idealists (get it?) in three languages — English, Spanish, and French — as well as a nonprofit job board, a call for volunteers, and a social networking site that connects individuals with causes. Today, Idealist links to nearly 70,000 nonprofits and attracts nearly 9 million visitors a month from 143 countries. That's a lot of windows onto the world.
But as Idealist itself points out, there are more than 6 million nongovernmental organizations worldwide tackling every imaginable problem — and 6 billion people on the planet who could come up with solutions, if only we had the right connections. MOLI is committed to offering idealists and nonprofits more opportunities to connect by providing the richest and most recent social networking tools. Here in the MOLI View, we'll be covering Worthy Causes, keeping you up to date on the people who are making a difference and how you can lend a hand.
So go ahead, look out your window to see what you would like to change. Then join us online and connect to someone who wants to make a change too.
