A Kiwi Coffee Revolution

By Abbey Stirling/MOLI

Caffeine connoisseurs storm London

Spotting a prevailing gap in the UK coffee market, two kiwi caffeine connoisseurs have set up shop in London's Soho to boycott the big-wigs and begin a coffee revolution. Flat White café came to fruition almost two years ago and has made a reputable name for itself. Its founder, Peter Hall, recognized in London the absence of an independent coffee culture ubiquitous in the southern hemisphere. So in a bid to combat the chain gangs, he teamed up with passionate baristas James Gurnsey and Cameron McClure.
Amid the vibrancy of Berwick Street market, Flat White is a coffee shop enriched with chocolate walls and antipodean panache. Paying homage to the frothless flat white, a beverage prepared with espresso and milk, it is a hit with both locals and its loyal Australian and New Zealand following.
Creators Gurnsey and McClure have paid meticulous attention to detail, employing only the finest beans and equipment in the business. Hailed by Time Out magazine and bestowed the grand title of "best coffee in London" by Tyler Brûlée (the stylish founder of Wallpaper magazine) Flat White is a sophisticated exception in a market saturated by mediocre coffee. Enjoy your guilty pleasure with a clear conscience as 50 percent of the proceeds go to Jimmy Page's ABC Trust for Brazilian street kids.
