The Devil in Brett Forrest

By Donnell Alexander/MOLI

Journalist detained by Moscow authorities on way to fight

Brett Forrest's website bio says he "has written for Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine, Time, Fortune, Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, Wired, and Travel + Leisure, while reporting from more than 20 countries. He is the author of the book, Long Bomb, and the forthcoming Moscow Is Hell."

I know this cat simply as a complete maniac, one of the few who could keep stride with me whilst I was tearing up pre-sucky, loaded-with-dotcom-dollars NYC. In the days following the World Trade Center attacks, he was the guy I holed up with in a downtown Brooklyn bar and tried to figure out what the hell was going on. Real solid character, even better writer. Long Bomb is one of the best sports books you've never read. The scribe recently turned his Wired article "The Sleazy Life and Nasty Death of Russia's Spam King" into a screenplay that has been optioned.

Forrest, 34, is nearly five years deep into a stint living in Moscow. As much as Mike Bloomberg's reign of soulless materialism, Gotham's decline can be blamed on the absence of Brett Forrest (and, of course, me). We talked about this at 3:30 this morning, my time.

This Skype shit is amazing. I feel like I just got a new phone. And if you knew how utterly decrepit my actual phone is, that would really blow you away. Anyway, what are you into these days, telemarketing?

Yeah, it's all about telemarketing. Actually, I just got into this sub-prime loan thing.
