Cherry Pickin' Time At Last!

By Belinda & Hova/Courtesy of OffSprung

Now, we like to think of ourselves as hip and cutting-edge

Somewhere back in the mists of time, we promised to write "about some of our favorite cherry-picked songs for kids — songs not necessarily created with children in mind, but all ace kid songs nonetheless." Well, I think we're finally ready to begin that undertaking. Unfortunately, we haven't been spending all this time crafting a carefully thought-out list; we're just not that organized. Instead, we'll just feature a song a week or so, in no particular order, and plan to keep going until we get tired of it, or the Internet breaks, or someone in charge tells us to quit. So, without further ado, here's song No. 1 ...

Piero Umiliani, "Mah-ná Mah-ná"

Now, we like to think of ourselves as hip and cutting-edge in the kid-music world, just because we've repurposed a few "grown-up" songs. But the truth of the matter is we're squares from Squaresville, strictly vanilla, straight-up L7. This becomes painfully obvious when we look at a true master of recontextualization, Muppet-master Jim Henson, who ventured farther into the world of "adult" music to find kid material than we probably ever will.
