Save us from Veto Man!

By Juliana Luecking/MOLI

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Veto Man!

He's the man. Or is he a man at all? President George W. Bush woke up yesterday, ate breakfast, donned his cape of darkness, and then quietly, without fanfare, vetoed legislation to improve the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). Citizens are aghast! Governors threaten to sue! Dick Cheney — well, Dick Cheney doesn't care. With the superpowers innate to his fountain pen, Bush the Veto Man stripped millions of children of the opportunity to access basic health care, and unless Congress is able to override the veto (and it doesn't look good), the current program will be in jeopardy.
Human Being = You

Human Being = Me

Human Being = Child who needs health care

Human Being = George Bush?

Veto Man struck down SCHIP, created 10 years ago to provide health coverage to children whose families can't afford it and who don't qualify for Medicaid. (Let's say Mom and Dad work at Wal-Mart.) Veto Man's approval rate is only 33 percent, but, with powers vested in him, he can still block coverage for 10 million kids. It's his birthright! His privilege! He's unstoppable! He's inhuman!

You must go to FamiliesUSA.org to see an ironic video of how children see our Leader of the Free World, our masked crusader. One says, "He's just a very sweet man." Another says, "He loves kids." According to Families USA's list of veto myths and facts, Veto Man says he opposes this bill because:

Myths

1. It costs too much.

2. It covers children from families that make too much money.

3. The private insurance market can do a better job of covering these kids.

I agree with Wendy, what a freakin' tool. No kid left behind, yeah right! Love the "cape of darkness" remark.
