Health Care, Please

By Juliana Luecking/MOLI

Hillary says pay your premiums and follow the rules

In the post Sicko era, it seems like everyone but Senator Hillary Clinton knows that insurance companies are in business for profit, not for providing affordable health care. She presented her health care plan yesterday, but it's not what we need.
"My plan covers all Americans and improves health care by lowering costs and improving quality," Clinton posted yesterday on her site, Hillary for President. "If you're one of the tens of millions of Americans without coverage or if you don't like the coverage you have, you will have a choice of plans to pick from and you'll get tax credits to help pay for it. If you like the plan you have, you can keep it. It's a plan that works for America's families and America's businesses, while preserving consumer choices."

Oh, I'm afraid Senator Clinton has it all wrong. (And how I wish she would get it right, so I could vote for her!) Working-class Americans don't want to feed a giant, uncaring insurance industry their hard-earned dollars. Health care practitioners hate to be harried by the complicated insurance bureaucracy that offers no guarantee of reimbursement. Americans need health care, not a smorgasbord of health insurance plans.

In fact, health insurance companies are exactly the kind of American businesses that could fold tomorrow and would not be missed. Thirteen years ago, the insurance industry had the power to drown Senator Clinton's attempt to overhaul the health care system. That power dynamic is changing because the public is more informed, and because Clinton is now the frontrunner for president. This is the perfect time to ride the wave of controversy stoked by Michael Moore's film. (Oh Hillary, let's go see the movie together, and I'll squeeze your hand during the important parts!)

This may be very un-PC, but I don't trust Hillary a bit. And it disappoints me, because just like you, Juliana, I would love to vote for her.

I'm with you on this one. Her plan stinks, and we need better than she offers. Want to take a closer look at John Edwards now, guys? PHM, Brady, Tx.
