From Head to Toe
Try sneaking around, but you can't hide!
Or do I mean, from head banging to toes? I'm on a roll of rock, listening, loving, and living metal! I've got a mix on my iPod of Judas Priest through all the ages and albums, and I've got to say, I love Priest! What does this have to do with fashion, you ask?
A whole lot. Like with hair, music has influenced footwear in a big way.
Long ago for basketball players alone and then on to punks and rockers … I am talking bout black canvas Chuck Taylor Converse hi-tops, of course. These were made extra popular by the Ramones (who originally wore Keds, btw), and then of course K-Mart to Hot Topic and every other giant store and mall carries Cons, which are now pushed into the mainstream. I don't know if anyone who works in fashion today doesn't own a pair or at least wore them at some point.
Another hot (toe) jam I love is Run DMC's song "My Adidas." Such brilliant free advertising for the brand too! (A commercial was finally made only last year.) Run DMC made wearing Adidas bigger than sliced bread. It's the fabulous tipping point of popularity — one group sets it off into fashion and the consumers go wild!
Vans are and were the California specials. Worn first by skaters and punks in the '80s, these shoes are now also so huge they have a tour that's been going too many years now — yes, the Vans Warped Tour. The giant summer carnival on wheels features 900 bands to see in one day on many stages at the same time. I have been on it and there's nothing more like being in a traveling circus if you ask me.
