Fat Is the New-ish Skinny
Musicians show designers a thing or two about cool
Swarovski Style Rocks, originally shot in London at the Royal Albert Hall October 18, 2007, was finally on TV. I actually wasn't planning on covering it but was going to rewatch the Project Runway finale and report on that with all the details. As many or most of you know, Christian Siriano won this season of PR, and well deservedly. This talented 21-year-old was immediately caricatured by Amy Phoeler this past Saturday night on SNL, brilliantly. My friend and I laughed our asses off watching her be he. Fierce!
The Project Runway finale was a bit more interesting actually than Swarovski Style Rocks, but I felt it was my duty as your fashion correspondent to cover the latter. No one called and said I had to, yet I have.
Designers and performers were paired up: one song and a quick fashion show. They didn't shoot it like a fashion show, so things went by very fast; it's hard to remember what the clothes looked like in some cases. So I'll do my best with the highlights.
The MCs were Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman, with cameos from Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Watts, and Dame Edna — who ripped it up, making jokes about the rockers sobbing and "sniffing" things and the models running to the bathroom all night, insinuating bulimia. Dame Edna is not a tiny gal. The show took place in Royal Albert Hall and was for the Prince's Trust, which is a program set up to help addicts, prisoners, and the down-and-out get a life, literally. The trust has been going since 1976, which is quite awesome!
