More Bags to Bag
On target with Hollywould and MOLI's own Hanna Hammarberg
Sure, I said. One great bag deserves another.
First, an update on Ashley Watson, whose rep says they're working on new designs and that a lookbook is pending, so there'll be more to come on that.
Then I was hipped to a brand new MOLI store from Hanna Hammarberg, a London-based handbag designer. The idea of merchandise on MOLI is so delicious it could make us all broke: a combination of the hip and the handmade, it could start a new trend. Network and spend money, all at the same time. And not only are you going right to the source, you get to add a new friend as well. Which means talk about the goods ad infinitum, if you so desire, straight from the horse's mouth.
I certainly desire one of these bags. Hammarberg was a freelance designer for very hip Ghost London and has worked for überBrit designer Matthew Williamson, among others. She's clearly got her finger on the pulse.
Designing in London, she's infused the bags with a cheeky elegance: The leather has an equestrian richness combined with rock-star heft and swagger, the straps are ever so slightly kinky-thick, and the colors are right on. Being from Sweden, she also infuses the bags with a hint of Nordic minimalist restraint. Not to say that if you're a Swedish designer you're necessarily going to go the minimalist route. But in this case, she's got the balance between restraint and flash just right. You're not going to find chock-a-block hardware cluttering the flaps, or rows of zippers gleaming off the sides like multiple sets of teeth: Whatever the decoration, it serves a function. And these are a bargain considering the prices of other Brit designer bags, such as those from Anya Hindmarch, not to mention the endless trove of overpriced boho fussiness at Anthropologie.
