Cure for the Fashion Week Blues

Anna Sui puts fun back into summer design

Excuse me for gushing yet again, but Anna Sui's NY Fashion Week show had me cooing as much as Marc Jacobs did, albeit for very different reasons. While Marc's show was a slightly crazy show with an equally insane running order, Anna Sui's was pure unadulterated fun, with models who smiled, had punky stripes in their hair, and wore outfits that somehow merged the '30s with the '70s.

Sui concentrated on funky prints, great color combos, and mixing textures like chiffon and denim, silk and sequins, for a beautiful collection that put a modern spin on very retro shapes. Though hard to wear in reality, the high-waisted hotpants teamed with puff-sleeved blouses and layered tops were really cute, as were the signature printed dresses in diaphanous fabrics.
