Celebrities + kites = good news for Afghan schools

Celebrities chasing tail is never big news in Hollywood. But a new charity auction launching tomorrow on eBay gives the phenomenon a whole new meaning.

Created to help promote the feature film version of Khaled Hosseini's best-selling book The Kite Runner, the auction, which starts tomorrow and runs through December 15, features authentic Afghan kites with tails autographed by major league celebs.

Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Benicio Del Toro, Will Farrell, Halle Berry, Cher, Jake Gyllenhaal, Reese Witherspoon, Natalie Portman, and even good ol' George Bush, Sr., are just a few of the notables who have scrawled their monikers on the simple cloth rudders. Along with the kites, participants can also bid to win a trip to the set of the new James Bond film (as the personal guest of director Marc Forster); a private lunch with Hosseini; or the opportunity to have their name appear in his next book. All proceeds benefit the Afghanistan Relief Organization, an agency designed to train teachers and build rural libraries in the war-torn region.
