Evil Grows in Gotham

By Wendy Case/MOLI

Evil City Film Fest rocks NYC

Somebody needs to send Robert Redford an invitation to New York's Evil City Film Fest. Described in its MOLI profile as "a killer schedule of downtown events featuring a program of the latest in truly independent films, insightful filmmaker panels, and alcohol-saturated after-parties," it sounds like a lot more fun than freezing your poncy ass off at Sundance.

Now in its third year, the five-day-long celebration of indie film culture will infiltrate nearly every corner of the East Village (thus the name: E-Vill ... get it?) beginning today through October 8, as filmmakers, actors, production people, enthusiasts, and various hangers-on mingle in the name of artistic expression. The whole crazy thing will culminate in the Skullie Awards (held at B.B. King Blues Club on West 42nd Street), where prizes will be given for best feature, short, animation, documentary, experimental film, student work, music video, and horror film submissions. Free admission panels include "Blog Till You Bleed" and "Lifestyles of the Not-So-Rich and Almost Famous."

Sound like fun? Cruise over to the fest's profile to see awesome previews, stills, and descriptions of some of the featured fare — including Cowboy Stan, One Rat Short, and Begging Naked. The titles alone should be enough to get you down there.

This sounds like a lot of fun! I personally love the name "One Rat Short"!
