Introducing Israeli hip-hop violinist – Miri Ben-Ari

Think Foxy Brown. Think Lil' Kim and Trina. That's what comes to my mind when I think of the women of hip-hop.

The ladies of hip-hop are hardcore no-excuses powerhouses who will out-spit any man on the mic and look as fierce as they sound. Think Foxy Brown. Think Lil' Kim and Trina. That's what comes to my mind when I think of the women of hip-hop.

So when I heard about a hot new hip-hop star, I immediately imagined that she'd follow the path laid before her. I was not expecting an Israeli chick on a violin. I was not expecting Miri Ben-Ari.

In her tight and sexy jeans, trendy tops and with her gorgeous golden locks, Miri fits the bill of a celebrity. But this classically trained violinist, who is also celebrated in the world of jazz, has taken improvisation to a new level. Her music is fierce, and the hypnotizing sounds of her violin can compete with any hip-hop voice on the charts as being just as gritty, just as street and just as soulful as the best of them.

But since when do good little Jewish girls dream of becoming noted hip-hop artists? What is this Israeli chick doing playing hip-hop?
