Call us _fashionably_ late, but we always seem to get to the airport with just seconds to spare, and end up running through the terminal to gate like one million, still holding our shoes from security, MJ screaming for magazines, me dragging a carry-on heavier than Mo'nique in a Humvee. (We never pack the couture in the suitcases—it's irreplaceable.) As the gates are going down, there we are sliding in like Indiana Jones, like Bruce Willis.

But to Barbara Hill minimalism means living with the blemishes that remain once she's stripped the sleek surfaces away. The raw concrete of Hill's apartment, she notes, is anything but plain: The mottled gray surfaces evoke both the mountains near her weekend house in Marfa, Texas, and the work of minimalist artists, which she began selling more than 30 years ago. In a ceiling with rust stains and nail holes, Hill sees the natural and the man-made in beautiful profusion.

The Trench Coat Gets a Book

Like the t-shirt, the trench coat was originally a military invention that slid into the masses between World War One and World War Two.
It's traditionally made from khaki fabric, but recent memorable editions have come in pink (Burberry, Gap), silver (Gareth Pugh), and red (Ruffian).
To celebrate the staple, which may be the only piece of outerwear that's never hit an "out" list, the designers at Aquascutum have released a new book on the coats.
