GRAPHOLOGY AS A SCIENCE

About Adam Brand

Adam Brand

Handwriting analysis is an art form for Adam Brand. Based in Twickenham, England, Adam has been employing his skill for many years. A simple writing sample can unlock an individual's personality, characteristics and facets of their complex being and a deeper grasp on how to communicate with them is revealed. Each stroke of handwriting must be analyzed within the context of other strokes on the page to get a comprehensive interpretation. Graphology serves a valuable and practical purpose particularly for the fields of recruitment, genealogy, psychology and law.

House of Credit Cards

Why are banks willing to lend money to people who cannot afford to pay them back? If you're curious as to why the mortgage market seems to have suffered a meltdown of late, and what this says about how banks are manipulating your money, this is the question you have to ask.

For the answer, look at Enron—Ken Lay's house of cards is a scarily apt analogy for the modern mortgage machine. In both cases, borrowers and lenders engaged in the most irresponsible behavior imaginable: the bankers investing vast sums in questionable loans because of their obscene profitability and borrowers suspending their own disbelief because of the bankers' assurances.

Green Is the Color of Money

The advertisements seem to be everywhere. They wink like neon eyes from the sides of San Francisco's railcars, radiate a lime-colored glow from within bus stop kiosks, unfurl the green carpet of their messages along the flanks of local websites.

The ad design is striking, the enticing color drawing tired eyes away from the gray cityscape or the flickering computer screen. Some of the statements are clear and confident: Green is a city with country air. Green is 4 wheels on the road versus 400. Let's green this city. Others seem a bit more cryptic and smack of typical ad copy that seeks not to introduce clarity but incite desire: Green is yellow. Green is blue. Green is sitting next to a perfect stranger.

John Perkins's New York Times bestseller
Courtesy of Evelyn McDonnell

John Perkins's New York Times bestseller Confessions of an Economic Hit Man confirms every bad thing you ever thought about how U.S. corporations and government conduct business, hand-in-boxing-glove, in third world countries – from the inside perspective of a onetime evil-doer. The economist who used to do the bidding of big business in such places as Indonesia and Panama spoke at Books & Books in Coral Gables July 12, to promote his new book, The Secret History of the American Empire: Economic Hit Men, Jackals, and the Truth about Global Corruption. He was a charming, convincing, sometimes dramatic speaker: "After 9/11, as I looked down into that smoldering pit, I knew that I had to tell this story,'' he said, explaining why he finally broke his silence on deeds that had troubled him for years. Perkins wasn't all doom and gloom; having just come from visiting several Latin American heads of state, like Evo Morales, he's optimistic. "They give us tremendous hope,'' he said. "Change can happen and it can happen peacefully." Among the hundreds packed into the room were Sting and Trudie Styler, in Miami for the Police tour. Styler spoke about her own recent experiences in the Ecuadorian rain forest, seeing the tragic effects on children of environmental destruction caused by oil companies. With gold bangles sparkling on her wrist and her and her husband's perfect blond looks ("Sting and Bling," one wag called them), it was hard to envision Styler as the voice of the downtrodden. But she too spoke passionately, her voice shaking. Sting sat in the audience. Afterwards, he told MOLI he was there as a friend and fan of Perkins. "For the first time, having read both books, it explained to me why the third world was so poor," the Police man said. "It explained to me what the process of how that happened is, and how we need to change it.'' (Photos by Susie J. Horgan)
