| | It's interesting that so many years after the Colombine incident, nothing has really changed. The reason those two went berzerk, has that been answered? NOPE! When I was in HS I had a plethora of problems. My principal said something to me, "The reasons for any war in the history of mankind, is present at this school." When he told me that, I was shocked how calm he was. Was he refering to "The Goths?" I think not, he was pointing out that intolerance, and the violent reactions spawned FROM that intolerance, are the reasons wars were fought. When I was in HS labeled "goth," and never did I consider myself one. I didn't understand the purpose behind a label, or a stereotype. From this article I have drawn my conclusion that "Goth" is not any one concept or persona, but it is a broad spectrum of different sub-cultures, or ideas. As I said in the beginning, nothing has changed, this girl writes a list, and gets expelled from school. What have they prevented? Nothing, the list still exists, and if she REALLY wanted to harm those students, she will find other means of doing so. My question since 1998 has always been, what would drive someone to an act like that? What would it take, what would someone have to do to me, to make me want to harm them, more than just a beating after school. I highly doubt this girl walked into school and said, "That new kid over there, he's number one, and that person whom I have never seen before is number two." I agree with "Cass S." find the root of the problem instead of just dealing with the symtoms of the disease. |
