Beth grew up on in a home on Long Island that was a NO PET ZONE.  It's anyone's guess if her love of animals developed because of, or in spite of, that fact. 
Her first pet was a stray kitten she found seeking refuge under a tree during a storm. At the young age of 21, Beth learned very quickly what an awesome responsibility it was to be a pet owner, but, more importantly, what a joy and privilege it was. The experience was life-altering. 
One of her more important parenting goals was to teach her children to love and respect all living creatures. The first of the family pets was a black Standard Poodle, named Truffles, adopted through the help of the Humane Society. After the loss of "Truffie", another Humane Society adoption and an English Sheepdog Rescue adoption did not work out, but the family didn't give up. The current family companion is the 3rd in the line of adored black Standards - 9 year old Phoebe. 
Sharing the love of animals with her brother, author and animal activist Bob Harvey, Beth has gotten involved with his Thank a Wounded Vet and Save an Injured Pet project.  Beyond being a very worthy cause, this has given her an outlet for her love of animals and her mothering instincts, now that her 3 children are grown and on their own.
