Dec. 3 - Delivered 200 books, Outpatient Clinic

Description:
About my visit: "It was soberinng to see how many Veterans needed assistance to enter and move about the huge facility. Canes, crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs were everywhere - wounds and injuries last a lifetime!  What was also evident was the uplifting, comradery that exsisted amongst the patients - their supportive and caring interaction with each other was amazing." Bob Harvey

Jason P. Davies, US Army, Retired Administrative Support Assistant

The Austin Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic in Austin, TX is a 60,000 square foot facility serving a rapidly growing population of veterans surrounding the State Capitol.

These clinics offer a broad range of general medical services such as primary care, management of hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, preventative care such as immunizations, vision and cholesterol screening, physicals, and other services on a limited basis such as social work, pharmacy and radiology.

With the integration in 1995 of the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Center, the Waco VA Medical Center, the Thomas T. Connally VA Medical Center, and four outpatient clinics, these entities together became the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS).

CTVHCS is one of the largest integrated healthcare systems in the Department of Veterans Affairs, and contains one of the newest VA hospitals, one of the largest inpatient psychiatric facilities, and one of the few Blind Rehabilitation Centers in the country. In FY 2004, CTVHCS operated 1,063 beds and saw over 730,000 outpatient visits. CTVHCS is primarily affiliated with the Texas A&M University, College of Medicine, however a second affiliation was recently acquired with the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, making CTVHCS one of the few VA’s in the country with more than one affiliation with a major medical school.
