 About S.L.:

My family arrived from Germany January 20th 1939. We lived in NYC at several addresses in the Bronx and Brooklyn. My father attempted to start a business and my mother worked. My brother and I started school in Brooklyn and at the same time we learned to speak English.

When I was in the third grade my parents transferred us to a Jewish day school where we followed a public school curriculum and we also pursued a very complex program of religious studies including Talmud. After graduation I went on to De Witt Clinton High School to prepare myself for college and eventually a career.

After one year at NYU I was drafted because my standing in my class made me eligible for the draft and the Korean War. February 17, 1954 Cpl. Sol L Berg was honorably discharged; not much better suited to face the world then he was in 1952.

I then went back to college and studied medical laboratory technology. In 1964 with a family of four, two jobs and attending classes 3 nights a week at Fordham University and NYU I graduated with A Bachelor of Science. My working career began at the Brooklyn Maimondies Medical Center where I interned for 1 year. I pursued a career in medical technology that took me from a bench technologist to chief technologist and ultimately Laboratory Director; during that period I earned licensure in medical technology, cardio-pulmonary technology and X-ray technology.

In 1972 I was recruited by a leading supplier of laboratory materials and chemicals for a career in sales and marketing. I spent the next ten years in sales and marketing positions with several different companies, with each change came a promotion and raise in pay. My last position was Project Director for United Technologies where I led a team of Engineers and Scientists in the development of Bio-Luminescence for Industrial and Medical purposes. In 1985 I started my own company using the same Bio-Luminescence technology (with permission from UTC) particularly for Industrial purposes.

Ultimately we also did some medical projects with Massachusetts General Hospital and Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. The company earned six patents and went public. In 1997 I sold the company and retired.

After a year of trying to figure out what to do I decide to write a book. The result was “Escape to Live”

Today, I live in Sarasota, Florida with
