Priceless Platinum Jewelry At The Oscars

Priceless Platinum Jewelry At The Oscars

With less than two days remaining, excitement about the 79th Annual Academy Awards is reaching fever pitch.

And while many are busily predicting the biggest winners, losers and criers, many more are eagerly awaiting the Red Carpet stroll and the dresses and jewels on show.

While dresses are typically chosen weeks - if not months - in advance, the luxurious accessories tend to be left until much later, according to a report in the Washington Post.

"You never really know how it's going to turn out. We've had situations where an actress had a change of mind and it simply wasn't our day and that's just the unfortunate part of the business," says Rebecca Selva, celebrity liaison for Fred Leighton, which has lent its jewelry to Nicole Kidman and Kirsten Dunst.

"Other times we're surprised to find out that they ended up wearing us."

The Washington Post report indicates that platinum jewelry will be worn by some of Hollywood's very biggest stars this year. Jennifer Anniston, for example, will reportedly wear a priceless 1930s Bulgari necklace with circle-cut diamonds spaced by baguettes.

Australian actress Nicole Kidman, meanwhile, is expected to wear a platinum ring with 17 carats of emerald-cut and round diamonds, worth an estimated $875,000.

Platinum jewelry was also out in force at the 13th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, where Cate Blanchett, Kate Flannery and Teri Hatcher all choose to complement their outfits with platinum.
