“I find cooking, eating, and sharing those experiences to be among life’s great pleasures,” explains the supremely elegant Carolyne Roehm – fashion designer, former house model & designer at Oscar de la Renta, author, columnist, and one of the globetrotting glitterati’s best-dressed fashionistas. “I grew up in a family of good cooks, so of course it was natural that I would cultivate an interest in the culinary world," says Roehm. "At the age of ten I won my first blue ribbon for my brownies at the county fair and that propelled me onto the path of becoming a 'foodie.'" The whippet-thin Roehm – possibly the most svelte foodie on record…ever – later took cooking classes in New York and France, even studying at the Ritz Escoffier professional program in Paris.

While still a working fashion designer at her eponymous label, she was elected to President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. But a passion for beauty beyond the sphere of fashion encouraged her to branch out into entertaining, garden design, interiors, product design, and flowers. “Some of my fondest childhood memories were of making corsages with garden roses, cut flowers and scraps of ribbon and then selling them to grandmother for 5 cents apiece. Collecting flowers for the house, and fresh fruits and vegetables for that day’s lunch or dinner was a daily ritual all spring and summer.” A stint with famed French florist Henri Moulie led Roehm to pen her first book, A Passion for Flowers, which is still highly regarded. A series of other books followed, covering flower design, food, gardening, tabletop, and entertaining. One of her appearances on Oprah led Ms. O to give it up for Roehm, noting: “She’s a diva, she’s the master, she’s my mentor.”

Her latest good-life how-to is “A Passion for Parties",”a compendium of decorating tips, gorgeous table settings and floral arrangements, and more than forty fab (but easy) recipes including Mini Lemon Crepes Stuffed with Lobster, Chilled Zucchini Soup with Toasted Coconut, Baby Back Ribs with Rhubarb Barbecue Sauce, and Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce. Whether it’s Valentine’s Day in Paris or an Autumn Barn Dance for seventy, a spring tulip celebration or a fancy black-and-white dinner dance, Roehm takes you by the hand, offering up practical advice and inspiration so you can pull off a sumptuous Roehm-worthy fete for any season.

"A Passion for Parties" is available at Amazon.com.
