Spring BEAUTY Trends

Description:
RUNWAY MAKEUP FOR REAL PEOPLE

In addition to the clothes, the runway collections also provide a glimpse into the beauty trends and new ways of wearing them. This spring, the biggest beauty news was the return of the classically matte & polished face, full brows, red lips, and dramatic dark eye.

MATTE SKIN

The biggest change for spring is matte skin. Dewy and glowy skin is on its way out and almost every designer showed a classic, polished matte face. So get out the pressed powder compact, because it will become a staple in your makeup bag for the next few months. Just make sure it's not the overly powdered look. Skin still looks real and touchable.

Application: A perfectly matte, but not overly powdered face. Apply pressed powder lightly over the whole face with a large powder brush.
Why: A more refined look, keeps skin looking smooth and poreless during warmer months.
Try: Besame Cosmetics Cashmere Powder Compact

MATTE BRONZER

This season, matte bronzer dominated the runway, with soft nude tones applied to the tops of cheekbones focusing more towards the back, near the ear. No flushed apple cheeks here. Bronzer was also applied as contour, and as a complete color wash across the forehead, cheekbones and chin.

Application: Tops of cheekbones.
Why: Brings attention to skin, makes cheekbones more prominent.
Try: Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess

THE RED MOUTH

With designers Oscar De La Renta and Betsey Johnson leading the way, the red lip is not just for the holidays and evening events anymore. It’s the hot color for a more polished look everyday. We saw a variety of reds: a light stain, a matte red, and a soft gloss were all showcased as the perfect red mouth for the season.

Application: Everything from matte to glossy. Keep in the blue-red or true-red shades for a more modern version.
Why: An elegant look for day or night for all ages and personal styles.
Try: Something from M.A.C

A PINK MOUTH

Betsey Johnson, Diane Von Furstenberg and Nanette Lepore all showed different sides of pink, from violet to pink, from pale pink to shocking. Again, matte versions ruled, and pink offers a more romantic, girly version of the red mouth. Not brave enough for scarlet lips? Well get ready for a strong pink mouth. (More on the fuschia side actually.)

Application: in all shades, from lilac, fuscia to rosy burgundy.
Why: Emphasizes the mouth without being overpowering. Younger, more romantic, a quick way to add color to the face in the absence of color blush.
Try: Lipstick from Fresh in Gypsy Soiree

NUDE TONED LIPS

Nude lips are still around, but this time it's matte, soft rosy brown. While the matte lip is the strongest look for spring, the nude lip is big in all shades. Rosy browns, tan, and sand tones were strong at Carolina Herrera and Jill Stuart. Easy to apply and keep on.

Application: Matte.
Why: An easy day look that easily glams up with a darker eye for night. Brings out skintones and eyes.
Try: Bare Escentuals in Wearable Nude

A DARK, DRAMATIC EYE

Another change in makeup was the comeback of the strong eye, like those seen in the Zac Posen collection. Not just a dark eye, but a very dark, dramatic eye with a focus around the lashes and in the crease of the eye. Dark eye liner, lots of mascara, and even black eye shadow was seen for not only dramatic evening looks, but day as well. Strong and intense, this is not your soft smoky eye. Dark shadow is applied near the lashes and smudged out around the entire eye. Think 60's, but modern.

Application: Black or dark gray eye shadow, lots of mascara, liner and a strong eyebrow for balance.
Why: Brings out the color of your eyes, for a sexier look.
Try: Smoky Eye Palette from Stila

A STRONG EYEBROW

The full eyebrow just might be here to stay. Take a peek at the Behnaz Sarafpour collection and you'll see a darker, thicker brow. A straighter line to the eyebrow shape was emphasized to compliment the darker eye. Time to rest the tweezers for a while and get out the angle brush and a shade darker eyebrow shadow.

Application: Thicker, darker and fuller brows, strengthened by brow pencil and shadow, one shade darker than your natural shade.
Why: Gives a very powerful, strong style statement. Brings focus to the eyes without having to do a dark eye.
Try: Anastasia Bevery Hills 5 Piece Eyebrow Kit
