This New York Fashionweek, the most anticipated collection did not appear on any runways. Instead, savvy U.S. shoppers headed for their local Target, for dresses in silk & jersey, vivid print tops, jackets, swimwear and accessories by Proenza Schouler – for an unbelievable $9.99 to $139.99. As part of the Target GO International program, Lazaro Hernandez & Jack McCollough’s label is fifth in the series which has already featured A-listers like Luella Bartley, Paul & Joe, and Behnaz Sarafpour.

Now that the stigma is gone of seeing your designs on the selling floor of a Target or Wal-Mart, many crème de la crème designers have participated in interesting collaborations: Vivienne Westwood & Thakoon for Nine West; Roland Mouret & Gap; Mark Eisen & Wal-Mart; and Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor & Rolf, & Stella McCartney for H&M. “I think H&M is really giving the public what they want regarding fashion; middle America wants the high fashion at a great price,’ notes Sam Saboura, celebrity stylist from Extreme Makeover.” “I think it's great middle America is able to get high fashion at an affordable price.”

With the generous pricing, availability, and sizing - whether you’re thin, plus sized, or in-between – the term “cheap luxe” is no longer a paradox but a reality, and there are tons of ways to dress lively without breaking the bank. Available at Target.com.

TIPS!

Although the city that has everything actually lacks a Target, happily, this oversight has been fixed temporarily with a 90-day (only!) “Proenza Schouler for Target” boutique in NYC’s Opening Ceremony. Be advised that before you go, you might want to dress warmly & bring a book; to get in the door, you’ll probably first have to wait (and wait) in that long line of fashionistas snaking down Howard Street. More info at OpeningCeremony.com .

After you get your Target on, pop into the nearest Payless for some shoes by Abaeté. For her spring collection, Laura Poretzky utilized floral prints that capture the mid-year mood and can be matched with most items in your closet for that spring-y flair. For $20, the Ana Marie Flower Flat is perfect for any daytime outing or knocking around town. Payless.com.
