Economy

That a nation of unparalled wealth and opportunity is also a country with perpetual money problems is the most ironic issue of this campaign. The gap between classes is widening. The argument is where and how best to intervene.

  • Republican John McCain

McCain would lower trade barriers and overhaul the unemployment insurance system to make it a worker retraining program. He would promote the diversification and conservation of energy sources, and keep taxes low to stimulate business.

  • Democrat Barack Obama

Besides a package of tax credits, Obama would address the economy with $10 billion in early-childhood-education grants, labor-friendly trade agreements, retraining programs for displaced workers, and investment in small businesses and research and development. He would also pursue fixes for mortgage fraud, subprime loans, foreclosures, and credit card debt.

How about international trade? I think Clinton and Obama are both against NAFTA and other International Trade agreements.

A look at the tax structure of this country will tell you what's wrong with the economy. We take too much from the middle class, not enough from the wealthy. And we need to drastically increase corporate income taxes . . . do what Lester Brown suggests and go after the "dirty" companies, the ones doing the most damage to the environment. And like Ron Paul says, quit spending money on stupid wars . . . and almost all wars are stupid.

Exactly! They all talk a big story about education but nothing really gets done. It's terrible!

If you look at Florida, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

So true - How long have candidates been speaking about education? And what has actually been done?

In order to help the economy you have to first start with education.
