Candidate for Sale — Sold!

By Rebecca Wakefield/MOLI
One of the many ways that candidates raise money is through direct sales. And so Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John McCain each have a store. Each party also hawks its wares to loyalists. So let's check out the goods.

First up, the Clinton store. There are, of course, the requisite hats and T-shirts, in a surprising variety. There are two retro '70s and '80s styles, an "I [heart] Hillary" tank that recalls the classic "I [heart] New York", and "Hillary 2008" done in the big bubble letters you've seen even if your only exposure to the pre-Clinton era is VH1's "I love the 70s".

Still others feature the standard campaign logos, while another one saucily asks "Got experience?" For fashionistas, there's a chocolate brown T-shirt with a light neon blue "Hillary" signature on the front and MAKE History! subtly stamped on the back.

And for those folks who like to logoize their kids early in life, there's the "Hillary cares about me" onesie.

For the action oriented, there are the campaign bric-a-brac. For three bucks, you can buy a button that advertises the niche from which you support Clinton. It's available in African-American, Jewish, Hispanic, Asian, gay, nurses, veterans, educators, women, and children styles. There's also a flirty "I'm your girl" button. There are lapel pins that run $10 to $100.

There are logoed water bottles, beanie caps, coffee mugs, highlighters, mouse pads and key chains. You can also get organizing materials, such as the "dorm party" pack, which for a mere $80 gets you 10 campaign buttons, 20 bumper stickers, and 20 balloons. I'm thinking for that price, I'd want them to throw in 20 campaign condoms as well. This is for college kids, after all.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to align themselves w/ Obama or "Yo Mama".

I can't believe people actually buys this stuff. I thought a good protion of americans were having trouble paying their mortgages. My question to the first person I see wearing one of this ridiculous t-shirts - Is your mortage up to date?
