Coining the term "street organic," Sam underneath is a Portland-based clothing line that started using Bamboo fibers in their latest collection. With a dedication to socially conscious goals, Bamboo's sustainability, natural anti-bacterial and non-allergenic functions, breathability and fade-resistance make it an ideal material. Sameunderneath uses a 50-50 blend of bamboo and cotton, a supple fabric that's slightly thicker and more luxurious feeling than cotton for their subtly-styled t-shirts. Their Signature Tee (pictured), comes in warm orange, black and white, and features understated embroidered accents at the shoulder and hip, an embossed logo on the back of the neck, and an interior screen-print inset lining. Though the shirt's listed as "slim fit," it's cut a little wider than expected. $36

The technology of making cloth from bamboo is surprisingly recent. Developed by Beijing University in 2002 companies are starting to make clothing using this wonder material. In addition to its organic and sustainable benefits, bamboo fabric feels incredibly soft. It is antibacterial, antifungal and antistatic, properties which are retained even after repeated washings. The weave is exceptionally good at wicking moisture away from the body, and the fabric will keep you a few degrees warmer in winter and cooler in summer. And it's biodegradable. Got your attention?

Bam Clothing is an early adopter of the bamboo clothing movement. All of their products are made using bamboo fabric and natural dyes, and are made in a factory with ethical standards by fairly treated employees. Their bamboo is 100% naturally grown in China, is sustainable, and is grown without pesticides or fertilizer. And for every shirt you buy, they buy 10 sq m of South American rainforest and plant a tree.

Their current products include t-shirts and athletic shirts for men and women. Based in London, they ship worldwide.

Not all lip balms are created equal. Inara Organics Babussu lip balm is a superior solution for a soft smooth lips with a commitment to quality, environmentalism, and good design. Instead of a lint-attracting tube, Inara is packaged in a wafer-thin rectangular metal box with door that slides back. When ready to dab, the balm is soft but not soupy, transforming reptile skin into a supple pucker in two or three days. Also first-rate, Inara's sugar rubs, and body crème, like all their products, feature 100% certified organic with a large percentage of raw ingredients purchased fair-trade from women’s co-ops in Amazonian Brazil—even the scents are derived from natural essential oils. Inara’s clean and earthy identity might throw you off, but don’t be fooled—Inara founder Anne Doubleu built her background at Esteé Lauder.
