    1. Tell me a little about your business?
My business, Daily Mastery, helps people become more successful: all success stories, no matter the specifics, have one thing in common: their central character had superior time management skills. Without them, it’s impossible to achieve the success you can. So I teach the tools and strategies people need to achieve their success, however they define the term.

    2. How did you discover your passion?
In a way, I’ve always known it, because I was always helping people be more organized and make the most of their time. It just didn’t occur to me that there was a business there until just a few years ago. I just knew I loved to help people, and I was good at helping them do it.

    3. What do your find most rewarding about your career?
Two things: seeing my clients regain control, become calmer and more focused, and being able to work around my son’s schedule.

    4. What have been your major obstacles and how did you overcome them?
I had two major obstacles when I started: I had no sales skills, and I kept getting in my own way. The first one was easy so solve (I took a couple of courses) the second took a little more effort and work on myself, but it’s absolutely doable.

    5. What has been your coolest barter so far?
I got a brand new website (not my present one, a past one) through barter. It was a great barter for both of us.

    6. How do you relax, or spend your down time?
Watching my son develop and grow, reading – I LOVE to learn about everything -, traveling when I can, exercising and singing.

    1. Tell me a little about your business?

Spiritual Essence Yoga is a yoga and holistic wellness studio located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.  We specialize in yoga for everyBODY and holistic wellness services designed to help clients feel relaxed, rejuvenated and refreshed.

    2. How did you discover your passion?

My passion found me amidst tons of personal stress.  I was introduced to yoga during pregnancy.  At the time my life was very heavy and stressful.  Through yoga I found peace and the desire to share it with others.

    3. What do your find most rewarding about your career?

I truly enjoy helping people and guiding them to a less-stressful life.  Since yoga is so very forgiving and designed for everyone I get people who never did any physical exercise or think they are to this, to that or not fit enough for a full practice.  After class they are amazed at the transformation in their thoughts and the energy in their bodies.

    4. What have been your major obstacles and how did you overcome them?

My major obstacle was ME!  I didn't know how to manifest my desires when it came to my business.  I got over myself by practicing the art of letting go and letting God.  Though I still may slip it doesn't take me long to get back on track.

    5. What has been your coolest barter so far?

I bartered for the redesign of my current yoga studio space.  It was such a rewarding experience!

    6. How do you relax, or spend your down time?

I am blessed to have a very relaxing job :-)  I take time to meditate, take nature walks and reconnect.

    7. Unique talent?

In December I discovered I could make jewelry!  This hobby is quickly becoming another business venture!

    1. Tell me a little about your business?
My company The Bloom Effect creates the buzz for any lifestyle company.
It’s a One Stop Shop specializing in events, publicity, digital marketing/new media and International Consulting. www.thebloomeffect.com

    2. How did you discover your passion?
I discovered my passion since a little girl at age three, when I started playing piano and by five years old knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. A recording artist/concert pianist. I’ve been in music and surrounded by entertainment ever since.

    3. What do your find most rewarding about your career?
The most rewarding thing about my career is watching brand new companies or artists/products launch and grow. I love to watch step by step the progress my clients make and starting from nothing/scratch to creating something viable and valuable.

    4. What have been your major obstacles and how did you overcome them?
Major obstacles— phew! I have a few and still working on overcoming them.
My biggest is— MONEY/Finances or lack thereof I should say.
I am in the process of expansion and taking my company to the next level and looking at this time for partnerships that provide financial relief and or private equity people.
Another obstacle is – trying to do it all- need to delegate better and eventually would like to bring a team – a small team of people- like 2-3 people in house.

    5. What has been your coolest barter so far?
My best barter thus far has been Barbados. Finding someone with a gorgeous villa in Barbados and being able to take advantage of staying there in return for me spreading the word and helping them attract more business/guests. In fact- I’m going back next week!

    6. How do you relax, or spend your down time?
Relax- um??? No, it’s definitely important to have downtime and ME time and relaxation is key for any successful business person. I like to read, write poetry, take long walks in nature and a nice bottle of wine with some good friends and conversation is great too.

    1. Tell me a little about yourself?

My name is Dana Skallman and I work as a Senior Personal Financial Analyst with Primerica Financial Services. I have been working with Primerica for just under two years and am planning to open my own office within the next year. Prior to arriving in New York City I did graduate study in the United Kingdom in the field of Critical Global Studies. I also have an MBA from Monterrey, Mexico and a degree in Marketing from Minnesota. I was born in Des Moines, Iowa but, just three years after that my parents—teachers by profession—relocated the family to Honduras and set up a bilingual school there. This is where I spent my childhood and where my family still resides.

    <table class="" width="99%" border="0"><tbody><tr><td class="" valign="top" height="417">

    2. How did you discover your passion?

My passion has always been helping people. I am very much drawn to better understanding the disparities that exist in the world in order to help create better economic opportunities for everyone. In my career I have the chance to coach people in their search for financial freedom and health.

    3. What do your find most rewarding about your career?

I am privileged to work with an organization whose sole purpose is to educate middle-income families. We do this through a free financial analysis, and advisory services which provide a roadmap to eliminating debt and reaching financial independence. Primerica allows me to make a difference by working towards bridging the gap between the majority of the population, who struggle to make ends meet, and the very few, who are financially safe.

    4. What have been your major obstacles and how did you overcome them?

Launching a career in this field is a task of great magnitude. It took a great deal of learning to get to where I am now, and certainly that learning process is not over. In order to become successful I had not only to complete a series of licensing exams, but also had to remain positive and persistent in the face of rejection. In tough times I turn for guidance to my leadership team who always provide support and inspiration.

    5. How do you relax, or spend your down time?

I spend my free time with my little kitty. I love to read, take day trips and work on non-profit/social projects.

    2. What does your business do?
I founded C&G Enterprises in 1994. Since then, C&G has developed into three main entities: The C&G Youth Scholars Program, which provides life skills and leadership training lectures and presentations to various community-based youth programs and women’s organizations; C&G Professional Event Coordinators, which provides event coordination services for meetings & conferences, special events, and weddings; and C&G Technology Support, which offers desktop support services to home based and small business users. All three divisions can be accessed at www.cgenterprisesonline.com.

    3. How did you discover your passion?

I discovered my passion by realizing what came easily to me, and harder to most and what brought me the most inner satisfaction when I did it. Basically it was determining what I would do even if I weren’t paid for it.

    4. What is your favorite marketing tactic?

Keeping up our company’s standard of excellence, which has continued to yield us the priceless word of mouth advertising that has increased sales.

    5. What have been your major obstacles and how did you overcome them?

Cash flow and staffing have been my major obstacles. I continue to solve these challenges by setting up a disciplined plan to keep new customers coming to our door and utilizing quality interns and independent contractors.

    6. How do you relax or spend your down time?

Shamefully I have to schedule down time because my mind is always racing on ways to bring in and improve our business. However, when I can schedule that time I enjoy going to the movies and live theatrical performances. But my number one pastime is sleep, because I don’t get much of it?

    1. Tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Desiree' Enee' Spivey of A New You Image Consulting and
BeautiControl Skin Care & Cosmetics. I am in a loving relationship with a wonderful man. I don't have any children of my own, but I do have one step-son-to be. I love meeting interesting people and learning new things. I'm governed by a high power that guides my steps in life and keeps me grounded. I've been a Certified Image Consultant for the past six years and I absolutely love it!

    <table class="" width="98%" border="0"><tbody><tr><td class="" valign="top" height="530">

    2. How did you discover your passion?

There is an old saying: “You don't find your passion, it finds you.” I've always enjoyed helping women beautify themselves. I thought that if I did it as a profession, it would become mundane, so I only did it for pleasure and charged only a pint of ice cream. While I was at my last corporate job, women would often compliment me on my sense of style. I was never the traditionalist with the black and navy suits. My suits were always bright in color and I think being a full figured woman added to the allure. During lunchtime, women would come to my desk and ask for advice on make-up and clothing choices. One day, a co-worker asked me to go shopping with her. When we arrived at the store, I set her up in a dressing room and started pulling clothes. While we were shopping she says to me "you know, this is a job". I didn't think much of it at the time; but as time went on, more and more people wanted my advice and I thought to myself, something is going on here. Then one day, those dreaded words came from my boss "the company is downsizing and your position is being eliminated". I used that time to do some research on the industry. I enrolled at Fashion Institute of Technology for Image Consulting, became an Independent Consultant For BeautiControl and A New You Image Consulting was born.

    3. What do you find most rewarding about your career?

In the beginning, I wanted to work with the high-end clientele, but after a stint on Madison Avenue, I realized that market was not for me. So instead, I volunteered my services at Dress For Success and loved it! I got so much joy out of helping the everyday woman reach her potential. Today, my clients are the women of mainstream America. Hearing the excitement in their voices as they share their stories of how people reacted to their new look gives me a satisfaction that is unsurpassed.

    4. What have been your major obstacles and how did you overcome them?

To dispel the myth that image consultants are for the rich and famous using the day to play dress up. It's so much more than that. It's about nonverbal communication and what message you want to convey to the world. The very first conversation you have with someone is through your appearance. Having a positive image is a lifelong decision and an investment in oneself. I'm forever grateful to my clients who help differentiate between Image Consultants and Stylist. It's not about the clothing, but the person in the clothing, what statement that person would like to make and how we bridge the gap. You have your high - priced image consultants for the celebrity market, and then there's me.

    5. How do you relax or spend your downtime?

Three little words... Lifetme Movie Network! I love watching movies on Lifetime while curled up on my couch and breathing in the aroma of a BeautiControl sugar candle. I have some wonderful sister friends in my circle of love and I enjoy talking and spending time with them. Spending quality time with my family ranks high on my list. And last but definitely not least: a good old fashion nap does the body good!

    1. Tell me a little about yourself?

My name is Kyira A. Harris. I am a New York native who loves to travel and mix and mingle with different people and cultures. I am a certified holistic health counselor as well as a licensed speech-language pathologist. I love to touch people’s lives in a positive way, especially the lives of children. I have always been drawn to children.

    <table class="" style="WIDTH: 530px; HEIGHT: 773px" width="530" border="0"><tbody><tr><td class="" valign="top" height="417">

    2. How did you discover your passion?

I have always been interested in health. In 2003, I started seeing a naturopath due to a history of unresolved digestive problems. With the improvements I experienced in my own health, and seeing how really listening to someone’s problems could make a difference, I found my passion in health and nutrition.

    3. What, in your opinion, is the first step to healthy living?

The first step to healthy living is being true to yourself and not apologizing for it. People don’t realize that health isn’t just about what you eat and how much you exercise. It’s also about how you feel about yourself and how much you love your life. Emotional health plays a major role in your overall health.

    4. With all the diets and exercising options available today, what do you think is the most successful way to achieve and maintain good health?

It’s going to sound crazy, but remove the refined sugars out of your diet and major changes will be seen and felt. It’s extremely hard to do, but you’ll be thanking yourself every day once you’ve weaned yourself from the drug. As for exercise, it’s important to find something you love to do. One of the best forms of exercise, that most people can do, is power walk. Your heart will thank you.

    5. What have been the biggest fear clients may have had and how did you help alleviate them?

As a holistic health counselor, I work with all areas of life, that affect overall health. One client feared leaving a job that she hated and where she received no health insurance. With my constant support and encouragement, I helped this woman alter an important part of her life by getting a new job in an environment that she enjoys. Now, she is surrounded by co-workers she likes and is receiving a higher salary and health benefits. Another client never stepped out of her box. She only did things with her family and church. I helped her realize that she deserves all that she wants in life, which for her included friends, family, fun, and healthy relationship with men. I challenged her to try new activities like yoga, participating in creative, silly, child-like activities like making collages, and going to fun adult events. She realized that there is more to life than what she had. Another client feared her health. It seemed to be declining as her medications were increasing. With lots of verbal encouragement, support, and counseling, I introduced her to healthier eating and exercise, which she desperately needed. Her doctor was impressed with her weight loss. She felt more energized , and looked healthier.

    6. What is your favorite marketing tactic?

My favorite marketing tactic is having face-to-face meetings with potential business clients. I enjoy consulting in schools, teaching the students as well as the staff about healthy living. I always have my press kit with me to leave with a principal, parent coordinator, or teacher who may want my services in the near or distant future.

    7. How do you relax, or spend your down time?

I like to read, travel, and spend time with friends and family. With the beginning of my new business, I can admit that down time is very precious and has to be scheduled in. I know the importance of balance, so I make me a priority in order to provide for others.
