if you check the info section about me you will see i have 3 heroes. Muhamad Ali, Bruce Lee and Ian Brown. Today I met Ian Brown, it really made my year! I've been a fan of his music for longer than I care to admit (about 17 years) from his time in The Stone Roses through to his solo career which has now surpassed what he did with the band.
Although he is not the most gifted of singers or dancers he has managed to develop a legendary status in modern British rock, recently being bestowed with the 'Godlike Genius' award at the NME awards. In the late 8os The Stone Roses appeared and changed the face of british music, they fused rock with dance and are without doubt one of the biggest influences on todays music scene. their debut album still reguarly tops top 50 album polls, it is widely believed to be the finest debut ever by a british band. unfortunately for various reasons, including legal issues, musical differneces and drugs they never managed to continue in the same form, their 2nd album, although in my opinion an excellent record with some outstanding moments, was their last.
ian went awol for some time before coming back with a solo album no one expected, and has gone from strength to strength since.
Here is video footage i recorded of him live in concert last year, it was an awesome gig, one of his best by all accounts.
although he doesn't have the voice or moves, he has a style all of his own, a knack of pulling things together and the presence and self belief to have inspired a generation of young musicians.
today was a special day for me, thanks Ian for being a gent and spending some time with a fan!
