                        1. FOUND #5 and Fall Tour!

                          20.Aug.07, 22:08 EDT Blog edited on: 31.Oct.07, 23:06 EDT

Letter from the Michigan Unemployment Office
(FOUND by George W. in Grand Rapids, MI)

                          Dear Sir,

Your employer has not indicated that shortages was your reason for discharge. Stated you played with matches and set fire to paper in a trash can. Set fire to reports. Wrote abscene graffiti on the paper work, calendars and posted signs. You engaged in hourseplay — pouring ammonia on dry ice in the back room which caused the dry ice to explode. You twirled a broom and hit a customer in the head.

                          Thank You,
                          B. Hartline

What up friends! Hope you’re having a great summer filled with horseplay… just watch out for the customers’ heads! We’ve got a ton of fantastic news for you from FOUND HQ, so we’ll lay off the obscene graffiti for a minute and fill you in.

First off, FOUND #5 - The Crime Issue - is at the printer as we speak! We’re so excited about the brand-new issue and can’t wait to share it with you all. FOUND #5 features a former FBI agent’s life story, prison guard poetry, found notes about arson, pot, and self-amputation, academic crime, crimes of the heart, found eyeballs, found crack, and the story of a guy who found a million dollars in the road. We’ll have copies ready to ship in a few weeks; the official release date is September 6th. In the meantime, take a sneak peek at FOUND #5, and please pre-order now to be the first one on your block to hold the new issue!

In celebration of The Crime Issue, road warriors Davy & Peter Rothbart are hopping back in the van this fall for FOUND Magazine’s There Goes the Neighborhood 2007 Tour! It’s one of our biggest tours ever: 65 cities in 36 states, spanning 3 months, September 11th to December 13th. For a few of those weeks, PostSecret’s Frank Warren will join the FOUND crime spree. Davy’s got tons of fresh finds to share, and Peter’s got brand-new FOUND songs wild enough to rival his classics. All the dates and cities are listed below and on our events page. Can’t wait to see you on the road!

Hey everyone, put down the ammonia and dry ice, and lean in for a second FOUND has another huge project in the works, and we thought it’d be cool to give you an early preview. Filmmaker David Meiklejohn rode shotgun with Davy and Peter Rothbart on a few of their cross-country FOUND tours, and now he’s editing a documentary called “My Heart Is an Idiot,” a story of love, travel, and all things FOUND. Think Sherman’s March doused in Maker’s Mark. David is inviting all of you into the editing room by posting a series of short, funny video-chunks on the “My Heart Is an Idiot” website and MySpace. See for yourself what really happens on FOUND tour! Discover what Tommy Chong, Newt Gingrich, Davy’s mom, and a drifter outside of Glendale, Oregon, all have in common! We’ll definitely keep you posted as the movie continues to develop. Please check it out, and let us know what you think!

And if you hear some loud noises coming out of FOUND HQ in the coming weeks, it’s just the construction crew putting up our Jason Bitner monument. Yes, after 6 years of incredible devotion and tireless hard work, our co-creator is retiring from FOUND to dig into some new projects. Seriously, FOUND Magazine would not exist without Jason’s gigantic contributions these past 6 years. We will greatly miss his unique vision and unbelievable generosity of spirit, and we hope he might pop in again for some future special projects. Email us and let Jason know how much you appreciate him! You better believe Jason’s jersey is being raised to the rafters! While Jason obviously can never be replaced, FOUND is lucky enough to have a dazzling young star in an expanded new role… forget Oden and Durant, we’ve got James Molenda. You’ll be hearing plenty from James in the months to come.

All right - we better get back to twirling brooms and menacing customers. Thanks for taking the time to read this message, and thanks to everyone who’s been sending in such amazing new finds. With all this fantastic stuff pouring in, FOUND #6 and FOUND #7 will be following close on the heels of FOUND #5! Thanks also to all the crazy cats who’ve been posting comments on the Find-of-the-Day and keepin’ the party jumpin’ on the website. New finds every day of the week!

                          Peace Out for Now–
Davy & Jason, James, Sarah, Brande, Peter, Al, and all the workplace pyromaniacs at FOUND HQ
