Wilson, in his hypothesis BioPhilia: The Human Bond with Other Species, writes extensively about, “The connections that human beings subconsciously seek with the rest of life.†Is our instinctive, unalterable, genetic affinity towards pets enough to really make a difference?Â
Recently, I came upon an enlightening definition for the word PET: "to treat with unusual kindness". What might become of us if we live by the “meaning†of this word?Â
Perhaps, despite euthanasia, twelve million adoptable pets might each find one caring human to make all the difference. Did the adopted feline on my lap or the rescued lab-mix by my side nurture me to contemplate such a miracle?Â
