Am I a Halo fanatic? Absolutely. In my opinion, there is no better multiplayer game out there, and I just can't wait to play Halo 3 on my new 40-inch Samsung HD 1080p TV. I've tried all the PC-based multiplayer shooters, but there is nothing more fun than sitting on your couch, wireless remote in hand, and shooting your friends on the big screen. Microsoft announced a new Halo 3-inspired XBox 360. Is there anything more about this machine than the "regular" 360s? No. Am I going to throw my old 360 away and replace it with a new green Xbox? Sir, yes sir!
When Microsoft released the Halo Edition of the original Xbox, I pulled some connections and got my hands on the most prized possession of any Halo nerd (see picture).
Apparently Xbox developers have been watching "Red Vs. Blue," a series of home-brew movies made from dubbing voice tracks over video capture of the game. Halo 3 includes a "Saved Films" feature to record your triumphs at Blood Gulch. Saved films data are not video captures, but actual gaming information such as character movements and stats. While this keeps film data files small, exporting your conquests to upload to MOLI would still require you to have video-capture hardware.
In other Xbox 360 related news, a German hacker demonstrated a weakness in the King Kong demo disc. Using this vulnerability, he was able to insert some animation into the Xbox 360; however, it did not take over the hardware. Could homebrew Xbox 360 games be far behind?
