In recent years and in recent months, I have lost many loved ones in my family and some very close friends. The passing of these dear ones gives me a great longing, a longing to see the place where their spirits have gone. I have a longing to have my family and friends be with me, even if it means I must travel back into the place where memories are kept. In the past, we all exist on earth together and that gives me great joy.
Somehow, I know this life and the one that follows have been ordered very purposefully by the Divine Hand of Creation. I do not question the Creator's wisdom. On the contrary, I question my own reasons for wanting to hold onto to these people who have struck some tender chords on my heart.
Last week, on Sunday, April 13, 2008, my brother in law Kenny passed on from complications due to chemotherapy. Kenny had lung cancer for over a year now. His passing was sudden with him being alone in his room. His daughter had watched over him all night and fell asleep in the wee hours of the morning. Kenny passed about six that morning. For Shana, this brings enormous feelings of pain, regret and guilt. She feels that if she had only stayed awake, her Father would have lived because she could have called for help. Again, those heart strings were tugged tremendously.
Attachments to people that become so intense that I can scarcely fathom life on earth without these people, reveals a very important facet of our spiritual existence. God did not create us as lone souls to walk through time and eternity alone. Indeed, God fashioned us after our hearts, as he wove them all intricately together into a tapestry that would drape through the eternities as one tapestry. We are merely the threads that bind the tapestry. Creation is not only for us to exist but to co-exist. Mankind is for creation and creation is for God.
I am in awe that an all wise knowing Creator loved us enough to give us the human feeling heart and a beautiful place such as earth which to express with it.
Have a good journey Kenny, and all my family and friends who have crossed over that veil into the immortal world. I'll see you on the other side.
